Perfect

Nicole and Austin asked me to compose a song for their wedding, May 30, 2015. Lydia said, "Don't write them a preaching song, Dad." Barb said, "You don't always have to include the 'Not Yet' of the kingdom. In God's eyes, in a real way, they're perfect now." And Austin said, "I want something that I can listen to and sing with in ten years, and be melancholy."

Well. Here's what came out.
Lyrics
You reach for the olive oil
brush my arm and spill it on the floor
then twinkle your lovely eyes at mine
The kitchen is a splendid place
to love you and to share your grace
We're perfect, just the way we are

     Everything we do is right
     Everyplace we move grows bright
There's nothing will ever pull us apart
     People say we're like a desert show'r
We're more refreshing hour after hour
We're perfect just the way we are

The words you say while we're standing hand in hand
are not yours, not mine but span the ages
a rhythm to nudge a life toward God
The gathered saints are flawless kindred souls
to share our love and to make us bold
We're perfect, just the way we are

The candle sputters aromatic tunes
the sheets are smooth to slide us to the moon
It's one time that all my space is all yours
Our union is a fragrant whiff of the
Father, Son, and Spirit's Holy gift
We're perfect, just the way we are
I recorded this at Keith Smelser's "Cool equipment I've been collecting for years" Studio. Keith played ukelele, bass, and a smattering of drums. I played keys and sang. Photo by StrongTowerPhotography.com

Impeccable, indefectible, matchless, paradisiacal
Peerless, pure, beyond compare, we're sublime

Everything we do is right
Everyplace we move grows bright
And I'll wait forever
And I'll wait forever
And I'll wait forever

for all of you
